Scoring Slots the RR888 Way: Eight Big Hitters Put Through Our 888-Point Rater

Every slots review on the internet eventually collapses into the same tired format: four stars, a shrug, and a line about "stunning graphics". We got bored of that. So at RR888 we've built something with a bit more bite — a rating system scored out of 888, because obviously, and applied it to eight of the most-played online slots in the UK.

The idea is simple. Instead of a vague "great game, 4/5 stars", you get a number. A slot scoring 780/888 is telling you something specific. A slot scoring 412/888 is telling you something even more specific. Here's how it works, and here's how eight big games got on.

How the 888 Rating Actually Works

We split the 888 points into four buckets:

Add it up and you get a number you can argue with. Good. That's the point.

The Eight Contenders

Big Bass Bonanza — 702/888. The fishing slot that spawned a thousand imitations. Bonus triggers are infrequent but the free spins round with its fisherman multiplier genuinely delivers. Loses points on volatility balance — the dry spells can be brutal for a casual session. Entertainment value is high; the theme has personality, which is more than most can say.

Starburst — 655/888. The granddaddy of accessible slots. RTP sits around 96.1% and the frequent small wins make it brilliant for short sessions. But bonus frequency is technically a trick — the wilds and re-spins aren't a true bonus round, so it loses heavily there. Still one of the best penny-per-minute games in Britain.

Book of Dead — 689/888. High volatility done properly. When the expanding-symbol free spins hit, it can be spectacular. Bonus frequency is the weak link — you can go hundreds of spins without seeing Egypt's finest. Scores well on RTP (96.21%) and remains endlessly re-playable.

Gonzo's Quest — 671/888. The avalanche mechanic keeps base game wins ticking over, which props up the volatility score nicely. Free falls trigger reasonably often. It's showing its age visually, but the multipliers up to 15x in the feature keep it competitive.

Sweet Bonanza — 741/888. The tumble-pay mechanic means something is nearly always happening, and the free spins with multiplier bombs are genuinely exciting. Volatility is high but the game is honest about it. Docked on RTP variants — check you're playing the 96.5% version, not the 94%er some sites quietly offer.

Eye of Horus — 648/888. A British high-street favourite that made the jump online. Solid, dependable, a bit plodding. The free spins upgrade mechanic is clever but the base game can feel like watching paint dry in a desert.

Bonanza Megaways — 758/888. Still the king of chaos. Up to 117,649 ways to win, unlimited win multipliers in free spins, and a bonus round that occasionally produces genuinely memorable moments. Loses points because the volatility is ferocious — this is not a slot for a nervous £10 bankroll.

Fluffy Favourites — 612/888. The claw machine of slots. Charmingly naff, genuinely popular, and the toy-picking bonus is oddly satisfying. RTP around 95% keeps it competitive, but everything else is average at best. It scores on nostalgia, and we're not ashamed to admit that counted for something.

What the Numbers Tell Us

Interesting pattern: the games that score best aren't the flashiest. Bonanza and Sweet Bonanza top the table because their features trigger often enough to matter and their maths is transparent. The prettiest games with the rarest bonuses — Eye of Horus, we're looking at you — get found out.

A Note Before You Spin

A high 888 score means a game is entertaining and fairly built. It does not mean you'll win. Slots are games of chance with a house edge built in — full stop. Set a budget, stick to it, and treat any session as paying for entertainment, not chasing profit. If gambling stops feeling fun, GamStop and BeGambleAware are there to help, free of charge.

Argue With Us

That's the beauty of a number out of 888 — it's precise enough to be wrong in a very specific way. Think Fluffy Favourites deserved better? Convinced Book of Dead got robbed? Tell us. We'll be running more games through the rater, and the leaderboard lives on at RR888, where eight is always the luckiest number in the room.
